Tai Ono Chikei Series Tsuchi-Kasa Volcanic Ash Pot

From the Chikei Series (地景シリーズ or earth-landscape) this richly textured vessel is made from soil containing natural stone and mineral fragments, creating a speckled, almost meteor-like surface. Ono applies ash over a coarse clay body, allowing it to melt and crystallise in firing — an unpredictable process that gives each piece its own landscape. Its flared rim and low, rounded form make it ideal as a standalone art object or as a home for dried branches and ikebana-style arrangements.
